Event Information:

The machinery directive (2006/42/EC) written by the EU is designed to specify safety requirements for all machinery entering the European Union. The directive outlines many relevant standards that apply to safety of equipment.

Many standards such as the machine risk assessment (ISO 12100-1) and functional safety (ISO 13849-1) and electrical safety apply to equipment regardless of locale. In Ontario many CSA/UL standards point directly to the EU standards as reference.

North America and Europe share similar safety requirements which are mandatory in the pursuit of machine safety. Explore the common standards that apply to all equipment, why they are important and how they are applied. This presentation will provide a look at those common standards, provide examples, and show case studies in an effort to highlight safety in machinery design.
