Green Streets have been long acknowledged as one of the City's key tools to address the current and future impacts of climate change. Green Streets enhance the City’s right-of-way through the implementation of Green Infrastructure, such as permeable pavers, stormwater tree pits, and bioretention facilities while maintaining an efficient transportation corridor. Recognizing the opportunities presented by Green Streets, the City of Toronto has recently published Green Infrastructure in the ROW Standards, Drawings, Specifications and Guidelines and is ramping up implementation through the capital works program and development led projects.

This seminar will provide an overview of how green infrastructure can contribute to Urban Climate Resilience, key processes for the establishment of a Green Streets program and strategies underway to build capacity in GI operation and maintenance in the City of Toronto, including establishing an asset management and maintenance framework and pilot workforce development program GreenForceTO.

Kristina Hausmanis is the Green Streets Senior Project Manager for Transportation Services at the City of Toronto, where she coordinates the inter-divisional implementation of green infrastructure into right-of-way projects. Kristina has 14 years of experience working in municipal government - developing, implementing and leading complex interdivisional and multidisciplinary programs such as StreetARToronto, CafeTO and most recently Green Streets. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from McGill University and a Master of Environmental Science from the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus.
